Geelong Active Streets established momentum for long-term change through a family-friendly cycling event partnered with robust research.
This multi-faceted project promoted healthy activity, brought people into the city centre and supported cycle transport planning with data and case studies. CoDesign Studio mobilised local cycling groups to run a day of cycling-themed events along a proposed bike route on a sunny Saturday morning. Families, cycling groups and the cycle-curious came out in the thousands to enjoy the city and learn more about active transport.
CoDesign used on-street engagement, trial cycling infrastructure, surveys and counts to develop a body of data to support Council’s plans for improved active transport infrastructure. In the process, we engaged local cycling stakeholders to create a stronger community and carry the torch for cycling in Geelong in the future.
