The City of Boroondara wanted to know, ‘How can the community and council work more innovatively together?’, and the community suggested a pop-up Council.
This playful project tested the effectiveness of the pop-up Council concept, and prototype a replicable, scalable design with a welcoming living room style.
Bringing Council to the people, in this open, inviting and highly visible space, allowed Council to reach a significantly larger and more diverse audience than a closed or distant Council office.
Boroondara has an ageing population, who often do not engage with Council until active ageing services are needed right away. The Pop Up Council will share information about Council services, and facilitate a wider discussion about ageing.
Activities will encourage storytelling and contemplation about ageing as it relates to ourselves, our friends and relatives, and the broader community. The approach also prompts us to think about the roles we can play in helping the whole community to live a good life.
